When comparing skipping to running there are some unbelieveable stats: 10 minutes of skipping is the equivalent of running a whole mile in only eight minutes, a 10 minute skip can also have the same health affects as doing a 45 minute run (can you believe it)! Skipping not only improves your heart rate and blood pressure but as it is a weight bearing exercise it can also help hold off osteoporosis which is fabulous news!

As well as being a fat burning workout skipping also creates great muscle tone - It's a full body workout which uses your abdominals to stabilise your body, legs for jumping, shoulders and arms for turning the rope.

When we think of specific classes aimed at weight loss immediately 'spin' comes to mind. With the idea of burning up to 1,000 calories in an hour spin class - we all put ourselves through hell of pedalling away like a lunatic. But i'm happy to say that in a one hour skipping session you can burn up to 1,300 calories woohoo! In addition you can bang out a quick skip in the comfort of your home (if you have the space) or in the garden.
