Last weekend we were so lucky to be asked to attend the Tate Britain's exciting House Warming Part-aay woohoo! Although, it was already pencilled in our diaries as it was a free event hosted by the Tate - you could guess our excitement!

The Tate has always been a very special place for us - our Grammy bought Becki her first Tate membership when she was just a small might at the age of 15 years old and we have both fallen in love with it ever since. Favouring the Tate Britain, as it holds most of our favourite British artists and their work is on display there - Francis Bacon being the ultimate love! So anyway, off we popped late on Saturday night to the House Warming Party to grab a drink, listen to Hot Chip djing and get lost in the galleries.

Everyone meet the new Tate Britain...

The newly refurbished Rotunda, closed since 1928, has now been transformed into an incredible destination for not only Tate members but visitors passing through the space into the main galleries. The Tate have opened up the space with two new winding staircases, taking you up to the circular viewing areas and bar and down the lower staircase to the new and tasty food selection at the Djanogly Cafe.

Making this Rotunda a destination within the Tate, has brought a new life to the whole gallery, the space has an exciting buzz to it, along with a fantastic viewing space over the whole new re-development (perfect excuse for some people watching hehe). Somehow the Tate now feels rather grand and has become a more completed space, showcasing the incredible neo-classical architecture that was already there but now has become the show piece within the Tate's walls.

Whilst developing the new Members areas, the Tate Britain have also had a huge re-hang of all of the art work on show, devising a new way of experiencing British art. The galleries take you on a journey through 500 years of British Art chronologically. This means, as you walk through into a new gallery space, you also walk into a new period within British art. If you are new to London or have never thought to visit a gallery, the new re-hang is well worth a visit. We especially loved it as you feel like you are taking a journey through the history of art in Britain and can clearly see how the artists were working, whether collectively or separately in that period of time.

Together, we loved, loved, loved the new spaces! They were like a breathe of fresh air and made us both want to become architects really or at least re-create a new space within a space, (Yes we have been watching waaaay too much of George Clark's Amazing Spaces on 40D!).

But honestly if you have a spare few hours in the week or want to spend a beautiful weekend at a London gallery, 100% make it at the Tate Britain.
