I think I am not the only one that jumped on the fact that when Effaclar Duo was released by La Roche Posay in the UK last year that we didn't all run out and go and buy it. When it comes to at home spot treatments, I have to say, I will try anything. I have always had spot prone skin. I wouldn't describe it as acne a such but my spots can get pretty bad around my chin and I have always suffered with blackheads and large pores on my nose. I tend to have an oily T-zone but over the years since I have stepped up my skincare routine, my skin  has become less oily and more into the combination zone. It too can also be fairly sensitive especially on my cheeks. I got on well with Effaclar Duo but I wasn't blown away until Effaclar Duo + c/o (£15.50, 40ml). This new formula, I found actually helped get ride of spots before they even had a chance to develop. The dream right!

So of course I have to give the new Effaclar 3 Step Anti-Blemish System c/o (£32.50) a go. First let me explain the three step regime. Starting with the Effaclar Cleanser, a purifying clear gel cleanser that when added to water, slightly foams and leaves your skin feeling clean and refreshed. This cleanser helps to reduce excess sebum and is best used by massaging onto your skin without any need to scrub in both the morning and night. Next step is their amazing toner, a clarifying toner that helps to reduce the appearance of pores and keep skin healthy, which you wipe all over your face on a cotton pad. Finally is the famous Effaclar Duo+, an anti-blemish cream, is clinically proven to reduce the appearance of blemishes, it unclogs pores, reduces the appearance of red and brown spots and if that wasn't enough evens skin tone. With this one I don't quite use it how La Roche Posay suggest, use  a thin layer all over your face  but I tend to use it just on my problem areas.

Now to what I really thought of the three step system...

First impressions. The Notes.

As soon as I tried the three step system, on my first night, I couldn't believe how soft and clean my skin looked. I found it very strange using a foaming cleanser, as it isn't usually my preference when I buy a cleanser but of course ill give it the benefit of the doubt. Along with the toner and Effaclar Duo+ my skin looked great and felt clean. I really like the simple three step system along with an added in moisturiser just to use on my forehead and cheeks.

After a week of using the system, my poor spot prone chin is still rather awful. The under the skin spots on my chin are still visible and seem to be developing. My pores however....what pores. I am shocked how clear my nose looks, my blackheads are hardly noticeable and my skins texture is silky smooth. I think this is mainly due to the incredible list of ingredients including citric acid, and lactic acid, the more acids the better. I have been a little slack this week with using the routine in the morning (been very lazy with a few too many early starts) but have stuck with it at night.

After two weeks of the routine, I started adding in a little bit of an oil based serum mixed with my usual moisturiser just to add a little extra hydration, as it gets colder. My skin has been constantly matte with no major break outs and it seems my under the skin spots around my chin have decreased and now I am left with a little scarring. The texture of my skin is plump, healthy and clear as its ever been.

I am going to stick with the routine for another week or so and maybe then start adding in a few new products just as the winter winds are picking up and my skin needs a little more protection. I think overall, this has been a successful treatment for clearing up trouble some skin. In terms of hydration, as it is freezing outside and heating is sucking the life out of my skin, I personally need more than just these three products to keep my skin feeling soft and plump. Out of all of the three products, I would definitely use the toner regularly and I think its the star of the pack. Unfortunately its not actually available to buy on its own yet which is annoying but I am sure it will be released soon as it's a fab product for your skincare routine. However this system isn't quite 100% perfect for my skin as it does tend to need a little more hydration but in keeping a strict routine and when it comes to breakouts, all three products help keep spots at bay and do help them fade quicker than usual.

Have you tried the three part anti-blemish system? Was it good for you?

  1. I'd love to give this system a try as I have exactly the kind of skin (oily but sensitive) that it is suitable for. I've used the Effaclar Foaming Gel cleanser & Effaclar Duo+ before and absolutely loved both and I think the toner would also be a great addition to my routine. Thanks for the honest review - I would need a facial oil as well as these products for the perfect skincare set.
