I have never really had a problem with creating content for Life Looks Perfect, until the last month. I think when life takes over sometimes its pretty easy for your priorities to shift and your blog can be left behind. I wouldn't say that my blog has suffered at the moment but I have certainly struggled to keep up with my five posts a week schedule. When you have a 9 to 5 job everyday and a life that generally consists of battling with my own demons every single day, where does blogging fit into that? Somehow I manage to do it (goodness knows how!) so I thought it would be nice to share a few tips on the ways in which I like to get my inspiration on and my creative juices flowing.

Leave the house...

There is nothing better than sometimes leaving your room and the perils of staring at a computer screen and get some fresh air. I like to take Betty Boo for a walk, take my notebook out with me and get thinking. I don't tend to pressure myself too much with thinking too outside the box but when those moments happen I make sure I always have a pen and paper to hand so I don't forget. I think getting out and about, even if it is just down the road, is so important in keeping your mind clear and giving your brain space to breathe.

Read other blogs to get you inspired...

Well you might think this is slightly cheating but for me, other bloggers and their content, are what got me writing my very own blog in the first place. I think it's important to feel inspired by others, see what you like about others writing, what makes you read certain posts, what interested you. Maybe they may inspire you to think differently about the way in which you present on your own blog. If in doubt have a read of my favs. I think Jenny Purr is one of those inspiring bloggers who always are forever making me think up new content and getting me to use the things that I already have hidden in my cupboard. I am also always inspired by Gem's stunning honest and exquisite posts at From Gem with Love.

If you have money, go for a haul...

This is something I have dreamt of for a while now. A big beauty binge! I think it's the dream to just go and have a big spend up but honestly if you have the money sometimes this is the only thing that will get you in the mood for writing. I mean as soon as I have something new in my hands i cant wait to get back home to test it and then share it with all of you!

If you don't have money to spend, look what you have in your cupboards...

I have been doing this for a while now, as I really do hate wasting a perfectly good set of beauty products, just because I am testing something new. I find it a real challenge to use what you already have in your beauty stash but I also think it is also a way to see how creative you really are. Try grouping products together, share your skincare routine, tell us your favourite products for the season or some old favourites that you have forgotten about. The list is endless...

Go and explore the shelves and swatch away...

There is nothing more satisfying for me, than going and browsing the shelves of Boots or a poodle in a beauty haul to get me inspired. I don't always think its necessary to have the latest thing on your blog, and yes I know if your blog is about the latest thing well lucky you but for the most of us it's all about personalised content. I love seeing whats new and I love to swatch away and see if back home I have any good comparisons, as not all of us have cash to splash. If I am in a good beauty hall, its always worth asking for samples too as there is no reason why you cant create a post on your experiences or sharing how you get on with the sample.

Most of all, I think when you are feeling stressed by writing take a break...

This isn't a new one for me, as I have had to take plenty of breaks in the past but I think it when it comes down to it, your health, well being and happiness is number one. If you cant keep up with your schedule or you just need some time out, take it. The blogging community is so loving and we are always hear for each other. Think of number one.

I hope some of these little tips might get you thinking of ways to get you stuck out of your writing rut and please do leave me your tips, would be great to hear how you get your writing fingers moving.

  2. Amazing tips! Everyone underestimates how important it is just to get out of the house and walk around for a while.
